Subject:Porcelaine sleeping cat
Posted By: Annette Driesen Wed, Jul 13, 2016 IP: 46.117.77.78

I wonder if the porcelaine sleeping cat is really Japanese or a Chinese copy.
I received it many, many years ago from my father in law.
Who can explain the mark on the bottom of the figurine ?
And what is its value ? its ears are chipped.
Thank you
Annette

Please see your original posting for my comments concerning your Japanese sleeping cat model.

Thanks Bill,
Could you tell me the approx. year it was made ?
Does it have any value?

I'd suggest you check eBay or one of the web malls such as trocadero.com or rubylane.com to get an idea of prices for these cat models. Just remember that yours is damaged, so will be worth much less than one that's perfect. I would speculate from its stamped on mark that your cat was made in the late 20th century, probably for sale by the shrine at Nikko. While these cats otherwise are attributable to the Kutani kiln area, I was unable to locate another on line with the same mark as yours.

Best regards,

Bill H.
