Subject:Unknown Chinese painting - acquired in the 50s!
Posted By: Tom Mon, Jul 25, 2016 IP: 96.51.129.95

My grandmother received this painting in the 50s, and it has remained in the attic until it drew my recent interest. Any idea about this? I've identified some of the script as Small Seal script. I've included images of the painting and the read ink seal.

The title is simply "painting of cranes and pines" (that's the part in seal script), both representative of longevity, so this may have been given as a birthday present. The cyclical year corresponds to 1920 or 1980, I tend to think the latter, are you sure your grandmother owned the painting in the 1950s? Not sure of the artist's art name which is being used here in both inscription and on the seal, perhaps someone will chime in with the second character before I get to look it up.

Thanks for your reply. I found out it dates from 1921 artist Wumei, any help on his information would be appreciated.
