Subject:Anyone know what this paper is?
Posted By: Brett Wed, Aug 10, 2016 IP: 69.119.204.101

I assume it means luck/happiness as there is a piece of paper on the back with those words written on it. But why frame what looks like a piece of a brown paper bag? What does the little chop say? Any help is appreciated, thanks.

The Chinese and Japanese both value paper made of mulberry bark, which has long fibers and a texture sort of like what you show. In the 1980's, I visited a small factory on Taiwan which made the paper in small batches for export to Japan for use in business cards. When unbleached, the paper would have a look, feel and texture somewhat like that of a grocery store paper bag. You can Google-up some images of mulberry paper products and judge for yourself.

Best regards,

Bill H.

Thanks. That definitely seems like the material.
