Subject:Maker/Dynasty Mark Identification
Posted By: David Sat, Aug 13, 2016 IP: 71.211.119.183

Hello there! First time delving into the subject and I'm an absolute novice, but picking up bits and pieces as quickly as I'm able to (books and guides in the mail, on the way!). I've come across a sizable collection of ceramics and porcelain, bowls, vases, pots, tea sets, dishes, and the like but have little to no idea where to begin on identifying these.

I wonder if someone may have some fun tossing a little education my way if they are able to recognize any of these marks or pieces? Any and all information is greatly appreciated and you have my many thanks in advance for info or even a nudge in the right direction. Interest in this field increases daily, fear I may drown in the unknown here!

I've only taken solid images of two pieces as of yet, but have many more as time goes on. I imagine these are more than likely recent or reproduction pieces, but I honestly have no clue whatsoever!

Thank you again in advance for a moment of your time if you've got it to spare and all the best for now,

David

Your image reads Jingdezhen Zhi, "Jingdezhen make."

It is the same as mark numbered 96 at

http://www.gotheborg.com/marks/20thcenturychina.shtml

attributed to ca. 1970.

Jingezhen has been site of numerous ceramic factories for hundreds of years.

Modern products are not necessarily copies or reproductions of anything older, though they might bear apocryphal reign marks.

Aloha for now,

David

Hello, and welcome from a fellow newbie ,but frequent reader here.

I believe this to be a modern Jingdezhen Zhi mark meaning "Jindezhen make" with some degree of confidence. In which case that would place it circa 1950-1970.As value goes the kilns there ,which have been there for centuries have apparently lost a lot of their reverence. They make beautiful pieces to this day ,but many are produced and I have saw 6 with one pattern bearing the same mark. Also pictures of the market in China with dozens of sub-grouped identical themed pieces and their mark.

However, I'm also a novice and this is my first attempt at aiding a poster..I have been doing weeks of research and seeing enough information to perhaps point those with things I recognize, in the right direction.

If someone with more knowledge would please help me to confirm either way.I just don't want to get ahead of myself.

Comparing my piece to yours and to the Gotheborg examples, the 5th characters (reading top to bottom - right to left) are slightly different, which is either due to a few years difference or just different wear to the same mark.Mine is also placed next to calligraphy.

When it is just the mark you should find it to be centered most times.

See images 92-96 on the link to Gotheborg.

Under Later Chinese porcelain tab.(Best done by Ctrl+F )..Type Jindezhen into the page find.Seems to save time scrolling going to each instance of the word. Also, here is one of my pieces with a red version. It is the plate.

Hope this helps.

This is not a dynasty mark, but that of Jingdezhen, an area in China which is host to a number of kilns. It would be helpful to post a photo of the object along with the mark as there are members who can likely also date your pieces.

Tried to post further images, but they did not upload properly as seems to be a common problem on the forum. Here's the second attempt!

Geeze. This forum really doesn't like to function properly! I'll simply post a URL and see if that works properly, otherwise here it is so you can simply copy and paste it in.

Third time's the charm?
