Subject:Japanese Vase Marked "CPO"
Posted By: bokaba Thu, Aug 18, 2016 IP: 172.250.142.6

This is one of my Japanese vases. It is about 10 inches tall and marked "CPO" on the base. I think that mark is for wares sold at military bases in Japan from 1946 to the 1950s. Any information?

Hi,

You are right, CPO = Central Purchasing Office.
There is a little information on the Gotheborg Kutani page about CPO.
I can't make any sense out of the other mark. Maybe a detailed picture might help.
Regards,
Martin.

Thanks Martin. The mark is quite worn and difficult to see. I think this more of a Satsuma earthenware type rather than Kutani.
