Subject:Japanese Satsuma Marks
Posted By: Ruth Draper Thu, Aug 18, 2016 IP: 2.24.159.248 Hi this is the first piece of Satsuma wear I have Bought and I have been researching the marks. So far I think I have the Shimazu Family Meji period 1886-1912, Great Japan origin. The symbol for school and round object or the number 5. Please could anyone tell me more as I have come to a stop. Thanks. This is very interesting. |

However, the decoration is not great and the potting crude, so I would think perhaps mid 20th Century. The metal lid also is not original and was probably added in the United States or Europe. |
