Subject:Does anyone Recognize the Artist in this Japanese Woodblock?
Posted By: Peter V Mon, Aug 22, 2016 IP: 68.172.216.186

I have a couple of these woodblock prints, great colors, the marks are the same and I'd like to know who the artist or printer is, any help is appreciated.

The artist is Kunisada (aka Toyokuni III). Your greens are faded to blue. See link below for one at the Boston MFA:

The artist appears to be Toyokuni III aka Utagawa Kunisada.

Why don't you show the print in its entirety?

The signature reads "Kochoro Toyokuni Ga" (drawing by Kochoro Toyokuni).

Toyokuni was another name for the artist Kunisada, who, by the time this print was done (cir. 1850) his studio was a virtual factory of woodblock printing. Prints were turned out by the thousands in this era.
