Subject:Indian Miniature
Posted By: Michael from Cologne Mon, Sep 05, 2016 IP: 84.171.186.39

Hallo everybody,
I recently purchased this Indian miniature.
It shows an incredibly tenuous and accurate drawn young woman in front of some kind of small temple – painted with Gold on very old paper. (The digipics don't show it.)
My questions:
Does the drawing show a specific situation?
Can anyone say something about this miniature?
I bought and began to read the book “Stylistic Approach to Indian Miniatures” by Dr. V. H. Bedekar .
Is this the right book to learn?
Thanks for every answer.
Michael

This young lady is praying to a lingam, which is worshiped as a symbol of the hindu god Shiva. This is the iconography for Bhairavi Ragini. You might search for Ragamala or Bhairavi Ragini to find out more.
