Subject:Help with Jewelled Ivory Elephant
Posted By: guest2016 Wed, Sep 07, 2016 IP: 58.182.236.113

Hello ladies and gentlemen,

I am rather new in terms of ivory and was wondering if anyone here could provide an insight on this item I have recently purchased eg. value, provenance, use etc.

I purchased it from an auction house where it was sold as "Japanese Ivory". Could anyone confirm this?

Here is more information on the piece:
Early-mid 20th century single piece ivory carving
I have a CITES license for the item due to export, ivory piece is pre-CITES.
Size 8 in x 9 in.
Stones include ruby, cats eye crysoberyl etc.
Total 432 gems.
Weight approximately 2.5 kg.

If anyone could tell me more, I would highly appreciate it.

thank you!

Would need some closeups to see the grain in the material to determine if it is real ivory or not but it is certainly a handsome piece. If you are simply looking to resell.. Shoot me an email and we can talk as Id love to have this in my collection.

Kind Regards,
Steve Griffin
