Posted By: uverlord Fri, Sep 09, 2016 IP: 88.174.21.5

Any help would be appreciated for identifying the mark on the back of 2 (imari?) plates.
Thanks also for all other informations.

Hi,

There was an earlier discussion on this forum about this mark in 2011 and then was concluded the mark was 山石 Yamaishi.
However I could not find anything about an artist Yamaishi.

But the mark might be "Iwa" 岩 (meaning: Rock) and I found 2 auctions sites (Bonhams & The Saleroom) that had Imari pieces signed "Iwa", unfortunatly the mark was not shown.

Regards,
Martin.

There's a quite similar underglaze blue mark at the bottom of the gotheborg.com section on Fukagawa markings. It is indicated to be "Tsukuru", apparently 造, in what looks like seal script. Gotheborg says it was used by Fukagawa for about five years right after WW-II. I've included a link to their illustration below.

Best regards,

Bill H.

Thank you for both interesting answers. They confirm that the plates are Imari ware. For the signature, I will follow these tracks for my future research.
U.
