Subject:Artist and Signature Identification
Posted By: Round mounted Ink Artwork on silk Fri, Sep 09, 2016 IP: 50.140.57.237

We've just acquired this beautiful artwork but are having a hard time trying to identify the artist's signature and whether this is a Chinese or Japanese ink on seal. Any assistance will be greatly appreciated.

Fake Chinese painting claiming to be by Yuan artist Wang Meng. Upper right is a label (supposed to be in Zhang Daqian's hand? the calligraphy is really bad) saying it's a Wang Meng picture on silk and gives a title. The label in lower left is a bio of Wang Meng. The inscription on the picture is supposed to be by Wang but is not his writing and not his painting style. Instead the mountain in your picture is imitating a painting by Yuan artist Tang Di in the National Palace Museum (Taiwan): http://sns.91ddcc.com/t/32709
