Subject:help to identify wood on this inlay furniture
Posted By: Susan Thu, Sep 15, 2016 IP: 184.60.244.51

Hi,
I have several pieces of furniture which I purchased in 1980 while I was living in Taipei, Taiwan. I have 2 southern hat chairs and a tea table which are made from the same type of wood. When I rubbed alcohol on the underside to clean it the wood turns very red but the cloth does not pick up the color. A shaving of the wood does sink. One of the photos is a close up of the wood on the chair back top rail. It photographs very light and golden compared to the actual color which is truer in color shown in the photo of the set. On this close up you can see a long row of loops in the wood. This is visible in several places. Can you please help me identify the wood and age of the pieces. I have tried to upload photos before and haven't been successful so I am trying again. If I am successful with the photos I will send an additional message with photos of the complimentary piece which is a table made from a different wood but with the same theme of inlay picturing warriors on all four sides of the table.
