Subject:Large !0" Satsuma "Ikebana"

When I first saw this I did recognize the beautiful Satsuma decor, but I was at a loss as to what it was. A friend's wife who is Japanese told me it was an "Ikebana" or a floral arranger. A small wooden or metal container inside would have held the water and maybe a flower frog to support the arrangement. This one looks quite old. I'm thinking Meiji era at least. I have found nothing even close online to ID or compare it to for a value. It has some very faint gold markings on one of the feet. Anyone have any idea of it's age or maker ?
