Subject:Bronze & Cloisonne Tripod Censer, Incised 2 Character Mark
Posted By: Kevin Donnelley Sun, Oct 09, 2016 IP: 69.120.62.142

Hello All,
A cast bronze body with lozenge and scrolling cloud medallions, mask legs and handles w/an incised 2 character mark on the base
The colors of the cloisonne are basic red, yellow, blue, green and white, with 2 shades of blue displayed, sky and cobalt, and some blending of the white and red areas creating pink. The enamel has normal old method losses.
Thank you for looking

Height: 15.2 cm
Width: 14 cm (without handles)

I wonder if the incised marks might refer to a prior owner, or if they may be reign marks.

if not reign marks, knowing what date range would it fit into would be helpful

Thank you for looking

I read it in a tentative manner in Japanese as ι‡ŒδΈ€ζ–Ž (Sato Ichisai?) but this name brings me not further.

IMO, early Meiji (1870s).

Guy.
