Can someone please tell me anything about this vase? It is unmarked. Is this Chinese or Japanese. Thanks

The ginger or melon jar shape and dated motif suggest the possibility that this is a decorative product of one of the porcelain ornamentation factories that operated in Hong Kong and Macao circa the third quarter of the 20th century and later. The blanks sometimes were made in Japan and marked on the base as such, while the others came from Jingdezhen in China and might have had removable paper labels. The mouth rims of such jars originally might not have had glaze but could have been glazed at the ornamentation factories when they were decorated and re-fired. On occasion this process resulted in puddles of the secondary glaze in the base. If these puddles are present, I suppose it might add a bit of weight to my postulation herein about the jar's origin.

Best regards,

Bill H.
