Subject:Small plates sold as Qin purchased in 1986 China
Posted By: Sean Fordyce Tue, Nov 08, 2016 IP: 108.63.183.166

I have these plates with interesting marks -- not sure if Kangxi or other village pottery. Can anyone help me identify these? including the period and if they look authentic.

When this is posted I can upload more closeups of them.

Thank you so much!

Hi Sean

These are "country" wares produced in quantity around the 17-18th century and later. They are characterized by quick and sometimes crude decoration, and are relatively common given the numbers produced. Some experts ascribe them to the Annamese people of Vietnam and they show various markings. They are not highly sort after and thus can be purchased for a relatively small amount.

Regards
Jim

Common plates made throughout the Qing dynasty. Some of the marks seem to be Jiaqing marks which makes them 19th century.
