Posted By: KW Tue, Nov 08, 2016 IP: 2601:018b:c100:8c20:

Hello, I need assistance identifying mark on the bottom of a small, brass or bronze bowl.
Thank you.

The closest match that I could find is "Made during the great Qing Dynasty". But I don't know if this is correct.

The mark reads down and across from the top right in Mandarin Chinese as "Da Qing Nian Zhi", which translates to "Of Great Qing Dynasty Manufacture". Considering all the dirt that has been applied to the item, which looks in this limited view to be an incense burner, it probably is of contemporary origins, made for sale with other meditative paraphernalia in the type of incense-vending stores that have come to replace so-called "head shops" of the 1960's & 70's.

Best regards,

Bill H.

imitation "reign mark" on a modern imitation of an archaic bronze, it reads "made during the Great Qing"

Thank you for the verification. My opinion is also that it's a recent reproduction. Sand encrustation and too 'blackened' patina are just 2 clues.
You guys are awesome!
