Subject:Pair of Biskuit Porcelain Buddhist Lions /Foo Dogs - Help with Pattern and Age
Posted By: Elke Mon, Nov 21, 2016 IP: 92.196.3.175
Hello everybody,
any hints towards the age and the origin of this tiny pair of biscuit porcelain buddhist lions/foo dogs, which I found in a small Berlin second-hand book store some time ago. The owner used them as a letter support (Buchstütze).
They are hand painted, width 7,8 inches, ca. 4,7 inches high. No marks on the base. Both lions have a loose porcelain marble in their mouth
The painted foliage pattern and the translucent iron red and blue colours reminded me of imari, maybe "chinese style" imari?
I think they should be chinese, made around 1900 (late Qing) - or are they younger and more or less vintage decoration objects of the 50ies-70ies???
Any hints and thoughts of the chinese porcelain experts are apreciated.
Greetz and thank you in advance,
Elke, Germany
