Subject:Old Asian Bowl Identity
Posted By: Mary Watson Tue, Dec 06, 2016 IP: 104.169.30.239

I have an old repaired footed bowl, wondering if anyone could identify the time period for me. Thanks in advance, the bowl measures 5" tall x 8 3/4" wide on a 4 1/8" base. Fruit and flower painted pattern, cobalt orange/red green with some faded gold highlighting

I believe your bowl may be a Japanese "haisen" or sake cup washer, which types usually have a pedestal foot, some of the latter higher than others. I'd guess the age to be late 19th or early 20th century, but defer to Japanese collectors for a more accurate call.

Here's another haisen with figures that usually are described as the Japanese conception of Dutch. I bought the piece a few years ago and think it probably is 19th century.

Best regards,

Bill H.
