Subject:Japanese Artist, Ikkou
Posted By: JMOChicago Sun, Jan 15, 2017 IP: 73.8.16.99 Long story short. Bought an old house--from the family of an industrial/interior designer who worked for Holabird & Roots between 1900 - 1950's and taught at the Art Institute of Chicago. |

Posted By: Bill H Mon, Jan 16, 2017 The mark on the piece is 一光 , which among other transliterations can be read as "Ikko". I found one Ikko-signed Japanese bronze censer from a Christie's auction that had a Showa period (1926-1989) date, but unfortunately the listing showed no characters on which the name could be confirmed. You might want to search using Google. It responded to my query with images of several bronzes which I was unable to access at the time. Perhaps you'll find the sites up and functioning if we haven't heard from a Japanese collector by the time you see this. |

Posted By: JMOChicago Tue, Jan 17, 2017 Oh my goodness, thank you. Would this be from Ikko/Kazumitsu? I did a little searching around and his signature is linked to the name "Ikeda Yasumitsu" (see link)...does this sound possible? |
