Subject:3 sets of Asian tea bowls, need help identifying marks
Posted By: JMOChicago Wed, Jan 18, 2017 IP: 73.8.16.99

I have 3 sets of Asian tea bowls (6 in each set) but I'm getting nowhere identifying the marks and signatures on the bottom of each set. They aren't antique, just vintage. Likely from the 1940's - 1960's (?)

Hi,

Perhaps the first bowl with Nishikawa is something like 拙山. The Google translator translates it as "Tsutana-yama", pronounces "Tana-yama" and the English translation gives "Ha-yama". But I couldn't find anything about these names together with Nishikawa (= in Japanese: 西川).

Second bowl: no idea.

Third bowl with the red seal mark. The mark spells: 滝陶 = Taki-to (waterfall pottery). Perhaps it has something to do with the Takito company with marks like "TT - hand paint(ed) - Made in Japan".
Maybe others can give more information.

Regards,
Martin.
