Subject:Heritage Cultures Chinese Customs Zhang Fei Three Kingdoms Era
Posted By: ryan thomas deyotte Tue, Feb 07, 2017 IP: 2001:0569:74f1:0b00:

Hi Crew! I picked up this nice piece at a thrift shop the other day as it intrigued me and now after constantly searching for information I am stumped. I have not been able to find anything even remotely similar in nature to it. My Asian friend told me that the writing is Zhang Fei General Three Kingdoms Era but I don't even know what to call it. It is in a glass case and came in a very old looking red box that says Heritage Cultures Chinese Customs at the top and on the bottom of the exterior red box Pure Handcraft Production. It almost looks like a 3D piece. Anyone have any ideas? It can be hung on a wall and the piece to hang it from looks really old. I dont even know if its art or a wall plaque or? Anyone have a thought....it would be much appreciated.

Start off by looking for pictures of Chinese (Peking or Canton) opera costumes. That will explain a lot to you.

These kind of Three Kingdoms opera figures seem to exist in different sizes. You have a larger one but there is also a set available including several different smaller figures. (had found it on ebay - went unsold)

Besides of Zhang Fei there were figures made of Guan Yu, Zhao Yun, Ma Chao (I believe). The last one could be Huang Zhong but I am not sure. Would make sense though as those 5 persons are also known as the 5 Tiger Generals of Shu.

I have a similar one. Was thinking of getting rid of it but not sure it's value. I have Ma Chao. Image is too large to upload.
