Subject:Unknown makers mark
Posted By: John g Wed, Feb 22, 2017 IP: 2601:0344:c202:83b3:

Hello I'm having trouble finding this mark anywhere. I've found the exact same tooth brush holder on ebay and the seller says it is a satsuma piece but from what I know real satsuma usually doesn't have any English markings and the one i have found like mine has a different mark with "Japan" in English. Thanks for any and all help!

Hi, 1970's 80's mass produced porcelain wars from Japan. Don't know the mark off hand, possibly Shibata? You are correct it is not Satsuma. It is not worth much, of decorative value only.

Hi John,

Although the surface looks crackled like Satsuma, the mark spells "Kutani" in a stylized way: 九谷.
Regards,
Martin

This is a toothbrush holder.
