Subject:Ox blood langyao sang de boeuf blue underglaze jingdezhen vase
Posted By: Ryan Wed, Feb 22, 2017 IP: 66.87.64.70

I was wondering if someone can help me finish deciphering the 8 character mark? what it means? and how old this piece is? It is pitted like an orange peel and stands about 13" tall. It is white, cherry, and dark red Ox blood monochrome crackle glaze. i think the top script reads " made/Zhi Jingdezhen."... and the bottom either reads "Jian Guo Ci Chang" or " Jinguo cichang" for either the artist or company/factory. Is this translation close to or accurate? I was thinking it was made in the later part of the Qing Dynasty 1850-1912? Is this accurate? Any help would be greatly appreciated!!! Thanks Ryan....... I could post more pics of needed

Hi, this appears to be a modern 2nd half of 20th century piece. I am quite confident is not Qing.

Thank you very much Billy, I I was really unsure as I have found nothing similar with the signature or design other than older pieces. Was I close to or accurate with the translation? Is this what it says?

Your translation was pretty good. The mark reads 景德鎮建國瓷廠製 (Jingdezhen Jianguo Ci Chang Zhi), "Made by the Jingdezhen National Construction Porcelain Factory". According to an article at the below Chinese-language website, this factory was founded in August 1948 and continued to operate with minor changes in the name for the first few years after the PRC was declared in 1949.

The article goes further into the subject, and the Microsoft translator does a fair job for those who need to use it.

Best regards,

Bill H.
