Why do you think this painting is Japanese. I think it looks more like a Lingnan school painting by a Chinese artist, whose name or pen-name is 清敏。That at least is both the signature and seal.

The insect is fairly typical of the Lingnan style.

Thanks mikeoz, I thought that the writing was Japanese characters due to lack of knowledge of Asian languages and writings. I appreciate your help thank again. I like the flowers and the insect in this painting. the flower reminds me of peonies I use to grow would love to know more about this painting

Thanks It just seem to remind me of the pink color of cherry blossoms and those I associated with the Japanese.

The picture is definitely Chinese,
The grass writting signature reads,

詩敏   Shi Min
The seal script engraving on the seal also reads the same. Shi Min is a courtesy name.
From related Chinese literature I have found
three painters with the same courtesy names,
Among them only one comes under our classification, whose family name is Su.
蘇詩敏  Su Shi Min
I could not find much about her career. She was
active in the 60-70-es she is also known as graphic novel artist.
