Posted By: Michelle Fri, Aug 18, 2017 IP: 86.43.126.133

Hi
I'm new to this forum but I heard that Anthony j Allan was on here and might be able to give me some advise. I have this plate but I'm not sure about the colour of the blue and the rims

I don't think Anthony Allen has been on here for some time. He is quite a wealth of knowledge. You can search his past posts for valuable information.

I have serious doubts about this piece being authentic, but let's wait for Bill H. and others.

This dish has a pattern remarkably similar to that of a much larger (48cm) blue & white dragon dish in the Kangxi style with the late Qing Empress Dowager Cixi's "Chuxiu Gong Zhi" (儲秀宮製) seal. The latter piece is shown in the 1987 Weishaupt Collection catalog, "Vom Schatz der Drachen". I'm unable to say whether one of this smaller size was ever made with a period mark during the Qianlong Reign, but if it was, it escaped the Liu Liang-yu survey of late Qing porcelains, as well as my best Taipei Palace Museum catalog from the 1986 Exhibition of Kangxi, Yongzheng and Qianlong porcelains. Also, the foot on the dish here looks a bit dirty for imperial porcelain of almost any kind from the Qianlong era, much less one with an imperial dragon, because the porcelain industry was strictly regulated at that time.

Best regards,

Bill H.

Just came across this one where the decoration, the size, and the seal mark matches your plate:

There is however no guarantee that the dating or estimate from this site is reliable. I haven't had the time to search through the listings or to check the auction house. Let me know if you are still around, then perhaps I can guide you in the right derection.
