Subject:Lacquer
Posted By: Cecile Mon, Sep 11, 2017 IP: 23.233.56.237 Hi. I found this bowl box broken at a thrift store. They let me take the pieces to study. Is this a very valuable old piece of lacquerware. Who was it made by and when? Thank you. Such a shame that someone broke it. |

Posted By: Endre Tue, Sep 12, 2017 Thank you for posting this, I'm glad that you saved it from certain destruction. To my untrained eye, it looks older than 50 years. I know Tashiro Shoten used an elephant mark, but the elephant is facing in opposite direction. Also MTK used an elephant. Hopefully someone will be able to help you with the writing. Put back together it will always have a decorative value and I'm sure it will educate at least a few of us. Best of luck |
