Almost certainly Korean. Made in or commemorating September 1979.

The signature is 松泉 - Pine Spring. I don't know how to pronounce that in Korean.

Believe this is a Japanese product with the mark of "Shousen" (松泉). See the link for another similarly marked item with same transcription.

Best regards,

Hi again Toan,

Here's another link with some biography on a potter who went by the name Shousen. Still haven't spotted a matching vase and pattern, but recall seeing similar pieces when shopping for antiques. The cyclical date in the inscription says it was made in the ninth month of 己未, which would be 1979 in the context of this potter's career, in my opinion.

Good luck,

Bill H.

Toan, if Mike Oz believes this is Korean, then heed his word. His knowledge about this stuff far exceeds mine.

Cheers to all,

Bill H.

Dear Bill,

I think there are (at least) two potters using the 松泉 name. But their handwriting and the positioning of the signature are quite different.

The Japanese example you referenced signs in overglaze blue on a clear white ground and with the mark centered in the space - in the Japanese manner.

The other - and I suggest the creator of this work, being Korean, signs the work towards the edge of the base, and in an underglaze blue. The base colour is also has a very soft blueish tinge rather than the clear white of the Japanese.

Regards,

Mikeoz
