Subject:Suzuki Harunobu woodblock print
Posted By: Patricia Lasell Sun, Nov 12, 2017 IP: 2601:601:9b00:6954:e

I am wondering if this print is a Suzuki Harunobu. It does have what I think is his signature, does not have a red chop mark, not sure if that is important. Can one tell if it is a reprint? The size is 10x15 inches. Really do not know much about it, would like any information. I've included a picture of front, back and signature.

Yes, it is a Harunobu signature. Since an original would have been printed circa 1760, the good condition of your print strongly argues for a reprint.

The paper looks awfully white and stiff for a print of that era. The mulberry paper of the time is like a heavy toilet paper and likely wouldn't stand upright like your print appears to do on the stand.

I was unable to find an original online to do a comparison and can't make a more definitive assessment.

Cheers,
Stan
