Subject:Unusual Signed Plates with FROGS solders
Posted By: Angela Wed, Nov 15, 2017 IP: 148.77.36.202

Hello, I'm trying to find the name of the artist for my set of Japanese plates. I have six plates depicting frogs as Japanese soldiers. Each plate is signed, very unusual and nice design. I was told it was a famous artist, but I'm not sure.
Do you have any ideas whats written on the bottom?
thank you all specialists in advance.

Marking:
日本横濵 井村造 Nihon Yokohama Imura zo (made)
I learned from Japanese sites that the above marked porcelain products are from 1890 to the 1920`s.
According to some opinions these products were bought
from Seto etc. and Imura Shoten (store) painted and exported them.

With regards,
I.Nagy

Imura Hikojirou. Worked in Yokohama as early as 1875. He specialized in flowers, birds, winds and moon. I have two vases decorated by him showing frogs in a pond in various poses suggesting a mother frog with mischievous offspring. The use of frogs here as soldiers corresponds with his whimsical treatment of frogs.
