Subject:Chinese Watercolor Paintings Help Please
Posted By: Joseph Iobbi Sun, Nov 26, 2017 IP: 47.17.102.98

I recently purchased the (2)two pictured Chinese watercolor paintings. Can any help me with identifying the paintings, Re: artists, inscriptions, age and or any other information?

Each painting measures approximately 13 1/2" x 9".

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you for your time in this matter.

Joe

I.Nagy,

Thank you very much for all your help and expertise. It is greatly appreciated.

I was able to do some research based on your information. I was able to find these web sites with the artists.

Am I correct in saying that both pieces are in fact woodblock prints?

Again, thank you very much for all your help and expertise.

Joe

These are Japanese and date to the Meiji period, around 1900. Others can give you specifics

The pictures are Japanese, not Chinese.

They are dated 1897 (明治三十年)but the inscription on the back is dated 1901 (明治三十四年).

The artist's name appears to be 秋山武右衛門 Akiyama (something).

This suggests to me these are prints rather than paintings.
