Apart from Mulan and other feminine myths and legends, girls were seldom found as the focal point of Chinese export art until the Republic Period (1912-49), and women's liberation in China was an unsteady process until after World War II ended in 1945. As such, I'd guesstimate that your bookend dates from the mid-20th century or later. |
