Subject:large blue and white bowl with unusual metallic blue paint
Posted By: Ray Wed, Mar 07, 2018 IP: 2602:304:cf5f:5970:4

Hello,
Your opinion about this bowl is greatly appreciated.
It is about 16 inches wide. Fully handpainted and everything including the mark is under the glaze.
The dark blue portions is unusual as it has metal in it. I tried to capture a close up shot of the metalic glaze.
The base is unglazed and is rough. It has some orangish color that may be is due to the firing.
I searched the mark and it looks like a Xuande mark which apparently is commonly copied.

I don't know, and perhaps you have already seen the link, below, that mentions a hybrid of cloisonné and porcelain, called Duh, that,if I read it correctly, was developed during the Ming period?

Hi m,
Some how your link wasn't included in your post. And no, I had never heard of and don't know any thing about duh. But after reading your post I googled it but I couldn't find any examples with close up details that I could compare to this bowl.

Towards the bottom, the above site mentions blue and white with a metallic sheen.

Thanks m. This statement in your link is interesting "The heap and pile effects which is natural on Ming pieces, is created by doting the required areas with higher content cobalt pigment."
I wish there was a close up picture example so I could see what the effect looks like. In the bowl I have , the metalic effect is easily seen by even the naked eye and with greater detail using a loupe.
Now here is something interesting about the grapes and vine pattern. I found multiple examples attributed to Ming period where the center part of the piece is almost exactly like my bowl and even the overall shape of the bowl looks exactly identical. But I don't see the obvious metallic effect even in the close up pics. So may be this pattern is being copied in other periods like Qing? Or is being copied still today? But I am not able to find any example with the same metallic effect.

And another example with the same pattern but completely round

And another example:
