Subject:Jiaqing Plate ?
Posted By: Gary Summers Tue, Apr 10, 2018 IP: 51.9.226.133

Hi,
I bought this plate in Beijing in 1992 in a government approved shop (red seal). Now trying to identify its age and authenticity. I believe it's from the Jiaqing dynasty (1796-1820), would appreciate any input.
Thanks
Gary

The mark on your dish is consistent with Jiaqing period marks illustrated by sources including Tony Allen's latest book, "Allen's Antique Chinese Porcelain -- The Detection of Fakes" and a 2006 Mainland-published Chinese-language compendium of historical Chinese porcelain markings. I have Jiaqing B&W dishes in a similar pattern with the same kind of marks in my own collection.

Best regards,

Bill H.

Thanks very much Bill for confirming my limited research capability. I bought the plate in Beijing as a purely decorative piece, as it has been safely stored away for far too long I thought I'd sell it on to someone who can appreciate its charm.
