Subject:Genuine?
Posted By: Christopher Millbank Sat, Aug 10, 2019 IP: 79.78.70.198

This is a beautiful vase, and was purchased as being 19th century and bronze, but now I'm not sure after trying to do some research into the design and signature. Can anyone help?
Kind regards
Chris

Appears to be a genuine Japanese vase with a mark that runs down as 盛光 in what looks possibly to be variations on bronze characters. When I queried Google, the characters turned out to be the respected maker "Morimitsu". I've put the URL below to a Morimitsu vase sold by Chrisitie's and am keeping my fingers crossed the link will work for a change.

Best regards,

Bill H.

Hi Bill.
Really kind of you to reply with such detail. I'm pleased it looks genuine as the quality is just so good. Thanks especially for the translation of the maker.
Kind regards
Chris

Thanks for your efforts Bill. I did find one at Christies. Identical signature but very different patination. Mine is very green with a reddish area on the Crayfish torso, which I was concerned might be rust. I've been told that is a giveaway for a fake, hence my concern.
