Subject:Help Identify Mark ~ Satsuma Charger
Posted By: John Degiacomo Wed, Feb 13, 2013 IP: 96.246.120.174 Hey guys... Just need a little help identifying a mark on a Satsuma charger I have. Seems to be great quality. Has a 9 symbol gold on black mark as well as a small impress mark (hard to see in photos, sorry). Attached are a few pics.. Thanks in advance.. ~ John |

Posted By: Bill H Sat, Feb 16, 2013 The gilt mark reads down in three stacks from the right as: Imperial Japan(大日本 - Dai Ni Hon or Dai Nippon), Satsuma Ware (薩摩焼 - Satsuma Yaki), Made by Kinshu Garden (錦秀園製 - Kinshu En Sei). (NOTE: My transcriptions may not be completely standard.) |

Posted By: Guy Fri, Feb 15, 2013 Quality indeed - an earlier export piece I think (1880s-90s), with the mark (read from the right to the left) "Dai Nippon - Satsuma yaki - Kinshuen saku" (Great Japan/Satsuma ware/made by Kinshuen' (decorator Kinshuen Motonobu). |
