Sorry I can't help you with authenticating the seal as I have no reference to make a comparison. Google was no help.

The character is one often written by people like your archbishop. In Japanese is it pronounced 'Nin' and means Endurance.

The character in formal form is 忍. The upper part of the character 刃 means the edge of a blade, and the lower part 心 means both 'heart' and 'mind'.

The writing is very powerful.
