Hi I have a jade carving that I bought a few months ago. When I first bought it it was covered in hard wearing paint. I have since taken the paint of to discover that underneath it is jade. I have since email a jade specialist who has advised me that it might be ancient nephrite and that the carving looks like a chinese medicine meaning. The thing that baffles me is why would you paint such a beautiful stone???? It has about 6 holes in the carving and some have been blocked up, after doing some research I was wondering if it might be a tomb piece and that it was painted to hide the fact. I have enclosed a before and after photo for you to look at. Can anyone advise me any further on the age, and what the carving means have you seen anything like this before.
