It appears as if someone might have been attempting to create a stone version of a Buddhistic carved wood bust that had been buried upside down in a termite mound in order to 'age' it. Such 'wormage' patterns are often found naturally on the bases of Burmese wood carvings. However, acid rain eats away at alabaster and other calcite stones in a much different manner, giving them a sandblasted look on exposed surfaces.

Wonder if someone made a mold from an old termite-eaten wooden image and cast this piece in modern quick-set cement, some types of which I believe are mixed wth resin or acrylic.

Best regards,

Bill H.
