Exquisite Satsuma vase question |
Posted By: Jack Posted Date: Aug 16, 2012 (08:05 PM) |
Message Hi there! First off, what a beautiful vase! I just started buying and selling Satsuma, and can't read the whole mark, although I think I have an idea of what some it says. I believe the characters in the top right read "Dai Nippon" (Great Japan). I'm not really sure about the six characters in the middle, although I think part of it reads something like "Satsuma Yaki". The characters on the left read "Fuzan made". Fuzan made lovely, high quality pieces like this vase. I don't know what the character surrounded by a box reads, although it may be a studio mark or something. It looks to date from the Meiji period (1868-1913). Hope I have helped, Jack.
