Brass Pot with Copper Fish (Carp?)

Hello Message Board,

I am hoping someone(s) might be able to identify the pot in the photos attached. It was recently 'unearthed' from the under-stairs cupboard by my elderly mother. She also 'cleaned' it which was not necessarily a good idea although it does make the fish in all its glory stand out clearly.

It is 250mm high and about 130mm in diameter.

Hopefully you can see from the photos the detail in the eye which has a third metal inlaid as well as the ripples in the water.

The Oriental script (I think perhaps Japanese if the fish is indeed a Carp) is on the side and the other stamp on the base.

I remember the pot/vase from my childhood so think it at least 50 years old. But other than it appearing along with some other Oriental pieces which have since disappeared I know nothing about it.

Any information about it or translation of the script and stamp would be very much appreciated.

Thank You.

Phil
