Message The top stack of five characters appears to read down in Mandarin pinyin as "Spring of the Jimao year" (己卯年春月 - Ji mao nian chun yue). In my opinion, this cyclical date might be either 1939 or 1999 based on the style of the painting. The three characters underneath the date read down as "Painted by Liu Zheng" (劉正畵 - Liu Zheng Hua). Chinese fine arts not being among my pursuits, I did only a cursory internet search, which found references to several people of this name in pinyin form, but none written in the same characters who were involved in scroll painting of the type shown here. Perhaps someone else will recognize this artist, or if you have the time and patience, you may be able to find additional information with a more dedicated internet search. Good luck, Bill H.
