Chinese B & W bowl - Kangxi or Ming? |
Posted By: Tim Posted Date: Dec 07, 2013 (06:05 PM) |
Message Greetings! I bought this large Peony bowl from a very fine estate along with some other Chinese pieces. Measures 16" wide x 6" tall, so it is a large bowl. Foot ring is finely carved and unglazed base with no signs of oxidation makes me think the piece is Kangxi. Also, I have seen Peony flower bowls form Kangxi period, but all were small (about 6-7" wide). However, the blue glaze has heaping & piling with black cobalt spots that suggest it is Ming. Also, the rendering of the flowers seems to be more in the style of Ming. I appreciate anyone willing to offer their opinions. Post a Response |
