Re: Help With IDing A Seal On Dehua Porcelain Blanc De Chine Statue |
Posted By: Bill H Posted Date: Apr 02, 2014 (03:11 AM) |
Message I believe the seal script mark on your Guanyin image reads down and across from the top left in Mandarin as "Dehua, Fujian" (Standard characters: 德化福建), the place where the piece was made. It appears to have been slip-cast, a technique Chinese potters began using around the end of the Qing Dynasty. If I'm right about the character reading order, it suggests the image was made no earlier than about the mid-20th century. Best regards, Bill H. Post a Response |
