Message Assuming that you are talking centimeters and I am talking inches, your print is a chuban size (with the mat covering part of the print). The Osaka artists often used that size (more than the Edo artists). Your print is an actor print and the text is the actor's name. If I had to take a guess, I'd say the artist is Hirosada. If you follow the link to the Wikipedia article below, you'll note that the prints on the top right of the page are similar to yours with a red cartouche and the artist's signature in the lower left margin. Your print may be from the same series of actor prints. You would have to take the print out of the frame to be sure. Also, look at this article about Hirosada: http://toshidama.blogspot.com/2011/01/genius-of-hirosada.html Note that the print at the top of the page may be from the same series of prints as yours. I am unable to find your print for confirmation. Cheers, Stan Link :Hirosada Post a Response |
