This 2013 Hong Kong auction result I checked was for a Shiwan figural "Melon Man" sculpture marked "Made by Luo Mingjia" with a cyclical date of the Jiashen (壬申) year, which could mean at 60-year intervals from 1992 ad infinitum. It has the same folksy look about it as this late 20th century unmarked Shiwan "Crab Man" sculpture that I once owned. There's no mention of Luo in the 2013 "New & Revised Handbook of Marks on Chinese Ceramics" by Gerald Davison or the extensive archives of gotheborg.com, so I'm taking this to mean Luo is a contemporary potter. The pieces with this mark of Luo certainly have a contemporary look compatible with other Chinese figurines and tabletop sculptural groups that have been appearing in the decorative & collectibles market since the late 20th century.

Best regards,

Bill H.
