Detail: top A rare Chinese Junyao 'bud jar' covered in a slightly mottled and streaked pale blue glaze thinning to pale blueish brown at the rim and finishing above the brown pottery foot. Northern Song dynasty, c.11th century. Jun 'bud jars' are rare and extremely sought after. This example, however, is an excavated piece which has been cleaned, so giving the glaze a more matt appearance. It also has a kiln adhesion and four small footrim chips, all of which are reflected in the price. Detail: base |
