Tibet 18th-19th c. wood 14"x9"x8.5" ht (35x23x12cm.) |
Detail:The right box It is very rare to find a matching pair of small Tibetan boxes, and rarer yet to find a pair in untouched condition. The corners display a very early form of joinery, so our age estimate is conservative. Each box is decorated on all four sides and the top, and each of the ten panels is painted with a different design. The tops are not hinged but lift off. Condition is generally good for boxes of this age, though there is some paint which is visible in the photographs. Detail:The left box |
