The people of the Himalayas have produced an dazzling array of objects of great beauty and skill, from the magnificent temples of the Kathmandu valley to the humble but elaborately decorated wooden pots used in mountain villages to carry milk. The Tibetans have created an entire genre of artfully decorated furniture. Bhutan has its textiles. Masks are used extensively throughout the region. We have been drawn to it all. As a result, it is difficult to categorize what may turn up at Himalayan Antiques. We don't limit our collection to "high" art but are equally drawn to objects made for domestic or ritual use as long as they have artistic merit. Some of our highlights include an extensive collection of Tibetan painted furniture. This includes not just cabinets and tables, but an important collection of early storage boxes. We have a number of thorgums as well as shrine cabinets and other specialized pieces. Bronze household and ritual objects from the Kathmandu valley made by the lost-wax process are unequalled and we have a large representative collection. More recently, as more and more buildings in Kathmandu have been demolished to make way for concrete structures, we have collected windows, roof struts, and other building parts of remarkable age and artistry.
