3. Buddha Amida Nyorai
17th century, Edo period
28cm total height; Buddha 17.5cm; Base 10.5cm
He is seated on a large Lotus base raised on a stepped plinth with his hands in the Meditation Mudra typical to Japan.
The buddha figure is constructed typically for the period of several different pieces of timber,he has a wooden urna in his forehead and a crystal bead in his hair, there are traces of the original gilding. The lotus base is made up of layered timbers too, the base has received a few flaked losses to the gilding over its long history which is understandable.
This figure is quite similar to one in the Denver Museum of Art which they date to the EDO period Ca 1700 AD.
There is a good provenance with this figure.
